Why all the secrecy? I’ve gone back and forth on this a lot. I don’t sign my full name, or personal email address because (like I said in the very first blog “my first day”) I want people to have an authentic first-look at me. While I like writing and enjoy conversing on the internet, I don’t want to compromise anything that might hinder what I think is more important – my face to face contact with students. It wouldn’t take much for a student (or fellow staff member) to Google my name, find this, and write me off. Think I’m overexaggerating? Walk onto a state college campus and be vocal as a sold-out, unashamed, bible believing Christian - people will make more assumptions of you than they’d like to admit (and yes, likely the same people who rightly tell you to avoid stereotypes based on race, gender, religion, etc). Does that mean I’m ashamed of what I’m saying? I hope not.

Why the letter format? Most of what I write ends up feeling more like a journal entry than a letter to a friend. But, I hope my focus is always towards specific people, recognizing them as individuals and interacting with them as such.

Can I send you $100 check? You bet. Not sure how you’ll get it to me though. I just felt like I needed a third question. I was tempted to call this “FAQ” but realized they weren’t all that frequent. Then I thought about “AQ” which could have been cute, but is already the country code for Antarctica and the initials of Pakistan’s father of the nuclear weapons program.
